Mummies, Snow and Trees

Another week filled to the brim with adventures and excitement for the Hymas family.  I wonder if anyone could guess the unit the boys are learning in school…
If you guessed Ancient Egypt, then you are absolutely right!

The boys are reading The Golden Goblet and mummifying a chicken. Yes, you heard me right. They are mummifying a chicken. This is an enormous process. Have you ever mummified an animal body before? I haven’t either.

It’s an everyday event filled with salt, baking soda and baking powder! The process will not be fully done until January! Already we see that little chicken shrinking! My hat goes off to those ancient Egyptians who did this for their dead! They must have been either crazy or devoted.
Our little valley was struck with snow fall for the first time this season.  It was brilliant!  Fortunately, we drive through a lovely orchard everyday on our way to school so we could stop for a picture.
I find it quite amusing how the girls pose with such grace and beauty while the boys position themselves with a mighty “bored to death” face plastered across their cute little faces.
Lincoln is such a cutie.
Naomi favored us in her traditional first snowfall mark of gratitude.  Thank you, Naomi!

The Hymas family LOVES Christmas.  We love it so much that we pulled the ol’ tree right out of the box and decorated with some spice!  A friend of mine took me to a great warehouse filled to the brim with holiday decorations.  I spent a little too much but had lots of fun decorating our tree!
